The locations featured in this Southern California engagement session are two of my very favorites! Jeffery Open Space Trail in Irvine is a breathtaking space filled with trees, lawns, creeks, and views. And the Mission in San Juan Capistrano? There’s hardly a more beautiful backdrop for an engagement session or wedding portraits! The historic Spanish architecture is a camera’s best friend!
This couple is just the sweetest and we had a great time together, capturing these moments! I love Jordan’s beautiful, airy white dress by Zimmerman, and her more casual style for the last portion of the day was just right. We took our time shooting as they warmed up (quickly!) in front of the camera, capturing genuine emotion and a true feel of their relationship. I often get the question “How do you help us feel comfortable in front of the camera during our engagement photos? We’ve never taken professional photos before and don’t feel we’re very photogenic.” I always start with the universal response that everyone questions whether they’ll look good on camera and worries about feeling comfortable. You are definitely not alone if you feel this way! I use a guided approach, to allow for a refined, fine art look, but listen and watch my clients to take intimate cues from them which ensures their images always display authentic emotion. Maybe he’s super funny and always brings out your genuine smile. Maybe I’ll have you repeat something you just did naturally to capture it on camera because that is you being you and I want your images to encompass that. Walking and movement are a great way to create a natural and emotive feel to an image. I always get feedback from my clients after their first session saying they had so much fun and felt surprisingly comfortable! I promise you’ll feel the same way. I’ll be posting some content soon about how to feel comfortable during your engagement session and what to wear for your engagement photos, so be sure to check those out once they’re up!
